Apropos the cover story, “Behind Every Power Woman is...” (TSI, Dec 21-27), it made a special read altogether. Thanks for this wonderful issue. Earlier you came out with the issue of wonderful women warriors who rule silently at their respective places, and now you came out with yet another interesting story of the people behind some of the successful women. It’s really interesting to read such stories at a time when the political and unpleasant events are marauding us day and night. An Editorial and A Response:
It is a dangerous precedence to create more states based just on mere political ambitions!

The untimely demise of Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy could not have happened at a worse time. The sequence of events that happened post his death proved the same. If initially it was a major political crisis that erupted with respect to the nomination of a candidate as the next chief minister of the state, later on, it was the demand of K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) for a separate state of Telangana that turned one of the most prosperous and properly administered states into a virtual battleground. The state, which for a very long period has been in the news for its strides in Information Technology and the successful battle against Maoists, is now in the news for all the wrong reasons. True to its style, the government at the Centre easily gave in to the demands of K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who was quick to realise the political vacuum that was created by the death of YSR and found the revival of Telangana movement for a separate state an ideal platform to re-launch his political career graph….

A Response:
The edit is a serious thought at this juncture, the statement the center made on this issue is one of the Himalayan blunders the congress did it in the recent past. It only made people to divide each other on regional, and cast issues. The people moved in unity till the other day divided into different groups and declare war on each other, the student community too divided apart on this issue, the situation here is so alarming that it should not happened to any state or people. Our so called rulers adopted a policy of divide and rule of the erstwhile British Raj. One cannot understand where we are heading to? Are we going back to the primitive world? What to do now is the big question and dilemma breaking into the heads of our leaders. So sad are the ways of our political leaders, one cannot understand the benefit behind this hidden agenda.
No doubt the Congress Government at the center messed up everything in the state of Andhra Pradesh by their hasty decision. Its one of their greatest blunders they committed in the recent past. The divide and rule policy will not work now. The government itself is in jeopardy now since even a good number of ministers submitted their resignation. The Sonia Singh Chidambaram + Pillai’s formula is in utter flop now and a leading state in India become leaderless, so strange are the politicians play. The edit is an eye opener.

No Butter Chicken--An Edit of Vinod Mehta And A Response.

A response to Outlook Magazine's Year end special double issue on its cover story
Dear Mr. Mehta this issue the double issue is no doubt a Special New Year gift to your readers. Your selection this year for the feast is really praiseworthy. Though as you said nothing much has happened as bad mews as expected. It is good you brought a sumptuous feast to your readers in this form interestingly avoiding the chicken tikka, chilli etc stuff, but had given importance to the Nadan (local) Dosa like south Indian stuffs. I am happy to make a note of Paul Zachariaariah’s ‘Once Upon An Erissery’ the Kerala's own sadya and appam (coconut milk special) and other food items, yes, gone are the days, now everything available in a ready made mix in packets is the sorry state of the high-tech India. Yes. the traditional taste is gone forever. Altogether this double issue no doubt a double feast on the eve of New Year 2010. Thanks Mehta and others for this sumptuous feast. Keep it up Mr. Mehta the dog editor. LOL

Let us be the salt and light to this decaying world
Dr. Woodrow Kroll, president of Back to the Bible International, wrote an article recently for “Bible Teaching for Confident Living” an official publication of Back to the Bible India.
I believe it to be worth reading writing to ponder over to this New Year.
He said,“The last two decades have shown how much the world needs the salt and light of Christians.”
“I was born in the 1940s and remember fondly the innocence of my youth. The 1950s was perhaps the more carefree decade in modern history. I spend my boyhood in that decade.
How things have changed in my lifetime! Instead of preserving life, some doctors have discovered a lucrative gold mine in killing children in the womb. Kids aren’t taking Bibles to school anymore; they are taking guns. Metal detectors used to be a novelty; now they are as common as an exit door.
Our society is disintegrating before our eyes. We act more like animal than animals do. Only a fool thinks that increased technology, leisure and education have done anything but produce well-educated, high-tech thugs with time on their hands.
Perhaps it’s time we reevaluated one aspect of Christ’s call to His followers. Maybe we should see the seasoning of our society as a missionary calling, just as much as taking the Gospel to a pagan society. After all, most “pagan” societies aren’t as pagan as we Westerners have become.”
As someone from the east, Dr. Kroll’s statements about the state of affairs in the west ring true because we are experiencing the same problems in the east.
A kind of fear and chaos prevails among the people irrespective of their position money or power.
Look at the political situation in our Andhra Pradesh, India. In that region, people lived in peace and harmony. Now they are divided into two groups and are warring against each other for separate states within their boundaries.
Sadly, this is a common phenomenon prevailing in India.
In all such situations, if we closely look we can see clear-cut evidence of avarice, jealousy and selfishness.
No doubt the desire for inordinate wealth is also a major reason behind such incidents.
As we, the believers in Christ, live among such people, we can play a major role here.
That role is of “the salt and light of this world.”
When Christ said this to His disciples, I believe He meant it in a literal sense.
One of the characteristics of salt is that it can preserve things from decaying, so we are to be the preservative in this decaying world.
Jesus also said that we are the light of the world. Our light indicates our true knowledge of God. We received this light by accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior.
And as the carriers of the wonderful light, we are to let this light shine through us so that people come in touch with us also will enjoy the true knowledge of God.
As our Lord said and desired, Let us be the salt and light to this decaying world.

കര്ത്താവിന്റെ വിലയേറിയ രക്തത്താല് വീണ്ടെടുക്കപ്പെട്ട വിശ്വാസികളുടെ കൂട്ടമായ ക്രൈസ്തവസഭ ഏതെങ്കിലും ഒരു കേന്ദ്രഭരണത്തിന് നിയന്ത്രണത്തിന് കീഴില് മുന്നോട്ടു പോകേണ്ടതാണോ?
ഇന്ന് ഏതാദൃശ കേന്ദ്രഭരണ സംവിധാനമുള്ള സഭകളാനധികവും. അത് വചനനുസരന്നമാണോ
അതോ വചനവിരുധ്ഹമോ ? നമ്മുടെ ആധികാരിക ഗ്രന്ഥമായ തിരുവചനം ഇതേപ്പറ്റി എന്തു പറയുന്നു ഈ നോളിലൂടെ എഴുത്തുകാരന് തന്റെ ചിന്തകള് പങ്കു വെക്കുന്നു.

അപ്പോസ്തലനായ പൗലോസ് കൊരിന്തിലുള്ള വിശ്വാസികള്ക്ക് എഴുതിയ തന്റെ ഒന്നാം ലേഖനത്തില് മൂന്നാമ്ധ്യായത്തില് ഈ വിഷയത്തെപ്പറ്റി വളരെ വ്യക്ക്തമായ ഭാഷയില് രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. കൊരിന്തു സഭയിലെ വിശ്വാസികളുടെ ഇടയില് ഭിന്നാഭിപ്രയങ്ങളും തന്മൂലം ഭിന്നതയും ഉണ്ടായി. വിശ്വാസികള് ഓരോരുത്തരും വിവിധ പക്ഷക്കാരായി മാറി. ഈ വിവരം ക്ലോവയുടെ ആളുകള് മുഖേന പൌലോസിനു അറിവുകിട്ടിയപ്പോള് അവര്ക്കെഴുതിയ ലേഖനമാണ് കൊരിന്ത്യലേഖനം. കൊരിന്ത്യരില് പലര് അപ്പോസ്തോലന്മാരുടെയും, ചിലര് ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെയും പക്ഷക്കാരായിട്ടാണ് സംസാരിച്ചത് . എന്നാല് അക്കാര്യത്തില് അപ്പോസ്തോലന്മാരുടെ പ്രതികരണം എന്തായിരുന്നു? അപ്പോസ്തലന്മാര് സുവിശേഷം പല സ്ഥലങ്ങളില് അറിയിച്ചതിന്റെ ഫലമായി അവിടവിടെ പല സഭകള് ഉണ്ടായി; സഭകളുടെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിനും ഏകപക്ഷീയമായ നടത്തിപ്പിനും വേണ്ടി ഒരു ആസ്ഥാനകെന്ദ്രത്തെയോ, കേന്ദ്രാതികാരിയെയോ അവര് തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തോ? ഇല്ല, ഒരിക്കലുമില്ല.
എഫെസ്യലേഖനം 2:20 വായിക്കുക. "ക്രിസ്തുയെസുതന്നെ മൂലക്കല്ലായിരിക്കെ നിങ്ങളെ അപ്പോസ്തോലന്മാരും പ്രവാചകന്മാരും എന്നാ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിന്മേല് പണിതിരിക്കുന്നു." ഗലാത്യര് 1:6-9 നോക്കുക. 'ഞങ്ങള് നിങ്ങളോട് അറിയിച്ച സുവിസേഷത്ത്തിനു വിപരീതമായി ഞാനാകട്ടെ സ്വര്ഗത്തില് നിന്നും ഒരു ദൂതനാകട്ടെ അറിയിച്ചാല് അവന് ശപിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന്". ക്രിസ്തുയെസുമാത്രമാണ് മൂലക്കല്ലെന്നും, തിരുവചനാനുസരണം നടക്കുക മാത്രമാണ് അപ്പോസ്തലന്മാര് ഉള്പ്പടെ സകലരുടെയും ചുമതലയെന്നും ഇവിടെ പൗലോസ് വ്യക്തമാക്കുന്നു. അപ്പോസ്തലന്മാര് പലയിടങ്ങളിലും സഭകള് സ്ഥാപിച്ചെങ്കിലും മേല്ക്കോയ്മ നടത്താന് ആഗ്രഹിച്ചില്ല. മറിച്ചു വിശ്വാസികള്ക്കാവശ്യമായ ദൂതുകള് നേരിലും കത്തുകള് മൂലവും അവരെ അറിയിക്കുക മാത്രമെ ചെയ്തുള്ളൂ

I am a freelance writer and an editor of a bi-monthly magazine. Above all a follower of Jesus Christ. Born and brought in Kerala, India, based at Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India.
My work has appeared in newspapers, weeklies, magazines and on the web, mainly on Christian religion and the Bible. I was a reporter and contributor for Malayalam weeklies and magazine mostly of Christian publications. I am a regular contributor to the web since 2007.

1981 ല് മുംബയില് നിന്നും പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചിരുന്ന സര്വ്വ് ദേശി മാസികയില് പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച കഥ.
സചിത്ര ലേഖനം തയാറാക്കി അയച്ചു കൊടുക്കന്മെന്നാവശ്യപ്പെട്ടുള്ള പത്രാധിപരുടെ കത്തു കിട്ടിയിട്ട് ആഴ്ചകള് പലതു കടന്നുപോയി. ഓഫീസിലെ തിരക്കേറിയ കൃത്യനിര്വഹനതിനിടയില് പത്രധിപരല്ല കുലപത്നിയുടെ ആവലാതികല്ക്കുപോലും ചെവികൊടുക്കാതെ കുത്തിക്കുറിപ്പുമായി യന്ത്രം കണക്കെ മുന്നോട്ടു പോകുന്ന തിരക്കുപിടിച്ച ഒരു ജീവിതം.

കാക്കി നല്കിയ'കമ്പി' കീറി നോക്കി
കണ്ണുകളെ വിശ്വസിക്കാന് കഴിഞില്ല. സന്തോഷം കൊണ്ട് അറിയാതെ തുള്ളിപ്പോയി. എന്റെ ആനന്ദതുള്ളല് കണ്ട് പരിഭ്രാന്തരായ സുഹൃത്തും കാക്കിയും പരസ്പ്പരം നോക്കി.
'എടോ സഹോദര' ഇതാ നോക്കു എന്റെ രജനിയുടെ മറവില് എന്ന നോവല് ഈ വര്ഷത്തെ സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി അവാര്ഡ് അടിച്ചെടുത്തു. ടൌണ് ഹാളില് വച്ച് നടക്കുന്ന അവാര്ഡുദാന ചടങ്ങില് പങ്കെടുക്കാനുള്ള സ്ക്ഷനക്കുരിപ്പ് ആണീ ക്കുറിപ്പ്.
തന്നെക്കലാധികം സന്തോഷത്താല് തുള്ളിയ സുഹൃത്ത് സന്തോഷവാര്തയുംകൊന്ടെതിയ കാക്കിക്ക് ഒരു കൈമടക്കു കൊടുത്തുവിട്ടു. അഭിനന്നങ്ങേലാല് എന്നെ വീര്പ്പുമുട്ടിച്ചു
ഏതായാലും ഇറങ്ങിയതല്ലേ കുറെ പടമെടുത്തിട്ട് മടങ്ങിവരാം എന്നു കരുതി സുഹൃത്തിന്റെ മോട്ടോര്ബൈക്കില് ത്രിവേണിയിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചു.
യാത്രാമധ്യേ പെട്ടെന്നായിരുന്നു സുഹൃത്തിന്റെ ചോദ്യം
എടോ സഹോദരാ, തന്റെ നോവലിന്റെ ഉള്ളടക്കം എന്താണ്? ആരുടെ കഥയാണത്? അതെഴുതനുണ്ടായ സാഹചര്യം എന്താണ്?
തോമഷിന്റെ ചോദ്യസര്ങ്ങള്, വിസ്ത്രുതമെങ്കിലും കെട്ടുപിണഞ്ഞു കിടന്നിരുന്ന എന്റെ ഭുതാകാലജീവിതത്തിലെക്കെന്നെ
വലിച്ചിഴച്ചു.
'ഒരു വിധത്തില് പറഞ്ഞാല് അതെന്റെതന്നെ കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ കഥയത്രേ!' ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞു.
വിവാഹത്തിനുസേഴമുള്ള എന്റെ വിചിത്ര ജീവിതം കടലാസുകളില് എഴുതിപ്പിടിപ്പിച്ചായിരുന്നു അസ്വസ്തമാനസ്സിനോരസ്വാസം
കണ്ടെത്തിയിരുന്നത്.
ലോകപ്രസസ്ഥനായ 'സോക്രടീസിന്റെ' വഴക്കാളി ഭാര്യയായിരുന്ന സാന് തെഷിയെ വെല്ലുന്ന തരം സ്വഭാവവിസേഷതയുള്ള
ഒരു സ്ത്രിരത്നത്തെപ്പറ്റി ചിന്തിക്കുകകൂടി പ്രയാസം തോന്നുമായിരിക്കാം അല്ലെ? വേണ്ട അത്തരത്തിലുള്ള ഒരുവളാണ് എന്റെ ഭാര്യ.
'പാവം സോക്രടീസ്'.
സകലതും ക്ഷമയോടെ സഹിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ക്ഷമയുടെ ഫലം എത്രയോ എടുത്തു പറയാത്തക്കതായിരുന്നു.
ഇരുപതു വര്ഷക്കലതിനിടക്ക് ഞാനും പലപ്പോഴും മഹാനായ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ക്ഷമയെക്കുരിച്ച്ചോര്ത്തു ശാന്തനാകുകയും അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അനുകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.
ആ നോവലിലെ മാത്യൂസ് എന്ന കഥാപാത്രം ഞാനും രമണി എന്ന കഥാപാത്രം എന്റെ പത്നി രജനിയും ആണ്.
അതായതു ഇരുപതു വര്ഷത്തിനിടയിലുണ്ടായ സംഭവബഹുലമായ കൊളിലക്കങ്ങുളുടെയും ഇടിമുഴക്കത്തിന്റെയും
തോരാമാരിയുടെയും മദ്ധ്യേ ശാന്തത കൈവരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുള്ള
ഒരു ജീവിത കഥ. അതാണ് 'രജനിയുടെ മറവില്'. അതില് നിങ്ങളെയും ഒരു കഥാപാത്രമായി ഞാന് അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്
മോട്ടോര് ബൈക്കിനെ ലക്ഷ്യത്തിലേക്ക് സുഹൃത്ത് നയിച്ചുകൊന്ടെയിരുന്നു. ചിന്തകള് കാടുകയരുവാന് തുടങ്ങി
ഒരു വിധത്തില് തനിക്കു ഇത്തരത്തില് ഒരു ഭാര്യ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നെങ്കില് തീര്ച്ചയായും ഇതുപോലൊരു പുസ്തകം എഴുതുവാനും അവാര്ടിനര്ഹാനകുവാനും കഴിയില്ലായിരുന്നു.
അതോര്ത്തപ്പോള് മനസിന്റെയുള്ളില് സന്തോഷം പതഞ്ഞു പൊങ്ങി.
ഓടിചെന്നവളെ കെട്ടിപ്പിടിക്കുവാനും ഒരായിരം ചുംബനങ്ങള് ആ കവിളുകളില് അര്പ്പിക്കുവാനുമുള്ള ആവേശം ഇരച്ചുയര്ന്നെങ്കിലും പരിസരം ഓര്ത്തു സ്വയം ഒതുക്കി.
വീട്ടിലെത്തി വേണ്ടതുപോലെ പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കാമെന്ന് കരുതി ഇരച്ചു പൊങ്ങിയ ആവെസത്തിനു ശാന്തത കൈവരുത്തി
മോട്ടോര് ബൈക്ക് ഗ്രാമപ്രതെസങ്ങളെ താണ്ടി ത്രിവേണിയെ ലക്ഷ്യമാക്കി മുന്നോട്ടു പാഞ്ഞുകൊന്ടെയിരുന്നു.
എന്റെ മനസ്സ് അതിലും വേഗത്തില് വീട്ടിലേക്കും.

ഏതായാലും ഇറങ്ങിയതല്ലേ കുറെ പടമെടുത്തിട്ട് മടങ്ങിവരാം എന്നു കരുതി സുഹൃത്തിന്റെ മോട്ടോര്ബൈക്കില് ത്രിവേണിയിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചു.
യാത്രാമധ്യേ പെട്ടെന്നായിരുന്നു സുഹൃത്തിന്റെ ചോദ്യം
എടോ സഹോദരാ, തന്റെ നോവലിന്റെ ഉള്ളടക്കം എന്താണ്? ആരുടെ കഥയാണത്? അതെഴുതനുണ്ടായ സാഹചര്യം എന്താണ്?
തോമഷിന്റെ ചോദ്യസര്ങ്ങള്, വിസ്ത്രുതമെങ്കിലും കെട്ടുപിണഞ്ഞു കിടന്നിരുന്ന എന്റെ ഭുതാകാലജീവിതത്തിലെക്കെന്നെ
വലിച്ചിഴച്ചു.
'ഒരു വിധത്തില് പറഞ്ഞാല് അതെന്റെതന്നെ കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ കഥയത്രേ!' ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞു.
വിവാഹത്തിനുസേഴമുള്ള എന്റെ വിചിത്ര ജീവിതം കടലാസുകളില് എഴുതിപ്പിടിപ്പിച്ചായിരുന്നു അസ്വസ്തമാനസ്സിനോരസ്വാസം
കണ്ടെത്തിയിരുന്നത്.
ലോകപ്രസസ്ഥനായ 'സോക്രടീസിന്റെ' വഴക്കാളി ഭാര്യയായിരുന്ന സാന് തെഷിയെ വെല്ലുന്ന തരം സ്വഭാവവിസേഷതയുള്ള
ഒരു സ്ത്രിരത്നത്തെപ്പറ്റി ചിന്തിക്കുകകൂടി പ്രയാസം തോന്നുമായിരിക്കാം അല്ലെ? വേണ്ട അത്തരത്തിലുള്ള ഒരുവളാണ് എന്റെ ഭാര്യ.
'പാവം സോക്രടീസ്'.
സകലതും ക്ഷമയോടെ സഹിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ക്ഷമയുടെ ഫലം എത്രയോ എടുത്തു പറയാത്തക്കതായിരുന്നു.
ഇരുപതു വര്ഷക്കലതിനിടക്ക് ഞാനും പലപ്പോഴും മഹാനായ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ക്ഷമയെക്കുരിച്ച്ചോര്ത്തു ശാന്തനാകുകയും അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അനുകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.
ആ നോവലിലെ മാത്യൂസ് എന്ന കഥാപാത്രം ഞാനും രമണി എന്ന കഥാപാത്രം എന്റെ പത്നി രജനിയും ആണ്.
അതായതു ഇരുപതു വര്ഷത്തിനിടയിലുണ്ടായ സംഭവബഹുലമായ കൊളിലക്കങ്ങുളുടെയും ഇടിമുഴക്കത്തിന്റെയും
തോരാമാരിയുടെയും മദ്ധ്യേ ശാന്തത കൈവരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുള്ള
ഒരു ജീവിത കഥ. അതാണ് 'രജനിയുടെ മറവില്'. അതില് നിങ്ങളെയും ഒരു കഥാപാത്രമായി ഞാന് അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്
മോട്ടോര് ബൈക്കിനെ ലക്ഷ്യത്തിലേക്ക് സുഹൃത്ത് നയിച്ചുകൊന്ടെയിരുന്നു. ചിന്തകള് കാടുകയരുവാന് തുടങ്ങി
ഒരു വിധത്തില് തനിക്കു ഇത്തരത്തില് ഒരു ഭാര്യ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നെങ്കില് തീര്ച്ചയായും ഇതുപോലൊരു പുസ്തകം എഴുതുവാനും അവാര്ടിനര്ഹാനകുവാനും കഴിയില്ലായിരുന്നു.
അതോര്ത്തപ്പോള് മനസിന്റെയുള്ളില് സന്തോഷം പതഞ്ഞു പൊങ്ങി.
ഓടിചെന്നവളെ കെട്ടിപ്പിടിക്കുവാനും ഒരായിരം ചുംബനങ്ങള് ആ കവിളുകളില് അര്പ്പിക്കുവാനുമുള്ള ആവേശം ഇരച്ചുയര്ന്നെങ്കിലും പരിസരം ഓര്ത്തു സ്വയം ഒതുക്കി.
വീട്ടിലെത്തി വേണ്ടതുപോലെ പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കാമെന്ന് കരുതി ഇരച്ചു പൊങ്ങിയ ആവെസത്തിനു ശാന്തത കൈവരുത്തി
മോട്ടോര് ബൈക്ക് ഗ്രാമപ്രതെസങ്ങളെ താണ്ടി ത്രിവേണിയെ ലക്ഷ്യമാക്കി മുന്നോട്ടു പാഞ്ഞുകൊന്ടെയിരുന്നു.
എന്റെ മനസ്സ് അതിലും വേഗത്തില് വീട്ടിലേക്കും.

ഒരു യുവാവ് പാഞ്ഞു വന്ന ബ്യ്ക്കില് ചാടിക്കയറി ഓടിമറഞ്ഞു
പാവം കുട്ടി! മാലയും കൊണ്ടവര് കടന്നുകളഞ്ഞല്ലോ
കണ്ടു നിന്നവര് സഹതപിച്ചു
പെണ്കുട്ടി കഴുത്തിലെ പോരലില് നിന്നൊഴുകി വന്ന ചോര തുടച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ഒരു പുഞ്ചിരിയോടെ പറഞ്ഞു

പത്തുമുപ്പതു രൂപ മാത്രം വിലയുള്ള വെറും റോള്ഡ് ഗോള്ഡ് ചെയ്നായിരുന്നു അത്.
അതു പറയുമ്പോള് കള്ളനെ പറ്റിച്ചതിലുള്ള പരിഹാസം അവളുടെ മുഖത്ത് തെളിഞ്ഞു നിന്നു

* For a changed climate
The cover story “Global warming... fire?"** and the edit “The UN Copenhagen…”*** (TSI, Dec 14-20) made a serious read. At present, developed countries like US and others are on the top list in gas emissions but their percentage in cutting down the emissions is very low as compared to India and China. We need to think seriously to save our coming generations. We need to take an initiative to control this global phenomenon. If we continued our present life style then we all will get caught in this peril. Global warming is a serious threat to all species on this earth. The scientists have already warned that the world has just 10 years to reverse the surging greenhouse gas emissions otherwise climate change would make this planet uninhabitable. They conclude that unless mankind stabilizes greenhouse gas emissions and start reducing them, it will have little chance of keeping global warming within manageable limits. We seriously need to think and act accordingly to reduce the emissions. We must stop cutting down the trees otherwise they will damage the already perishing flora and fauna of our country. As for creating awareness, schools and colleges can play an important role. Let's pledge to plant more saplings in our surroundings and other places available.

Mr. Mehta, this issue the double issue is no doubt a Special New Year gift to your readers. Your selection this year for the feast is really praiseworthy. Though as you said nothing much has happened as bad mews as expected. It is good you brought a sumptuous feast to your readers in this form interestingly avoiding the chicken tikka, chilli etc stuff, but had given importance to the Nadan (local) Dosa like south Indian stuffs. I am happy to make a note of Paul Zachariaariah’s ‘Once Upon An Erissery’ the Kerala's own sadya and appam (coconut milk special) and other food items, yes, gone are the days, now everything available in a ready made mix in packets is the sorry state of the high-tech India. Yes, the traditional taste is gone forever; altogether this double issue no doubts a double feast on the eve of New Year 2010.
But very unfortunate to note that this time you very ceremoniously pushed out your readers from the pages for airing their views through letters. This is really surprising that only one weekly do this type of editing in the news weekly category I don’t know why you followed their step. Very unfortunate indeed.
Anyways, Thanks Mehta and others for this sumptuous feast you provided this year. Keep it up Mr. Mehta the dog editor. LOL

Special Issue: 2009 The Year That Was 2009 The Year That Was
I’ve been performing the year-end review ritual for more years than I care to remember. Not only am I fatigued, the ritual too is fatigued. The fixed format consists of compiling a laundry list of the good, the bad and the ugly. Add to this combustible cocktail the defining event/s of the preceding year, and you have the requisite 900 words. There is a catch, though. Supposing the defining events of the aforementioned 12 months turn out to be duds, false alarms?
Take 2009. We thought that the Satyam scandal would seriously shake international confidence in our prestigious and profitable software industry. (Our software industry continues to be a cash cow and is still universally admired.) We thought Varun Gandhi’s hate speeches would communalise the general election. (Nothing of that sort happened, no communal incidents took place.) We thought the stockmarket, having crashed, would never recover, leading scores of investors to suicide and the country to financial ruin. (The Sensex is currently buoyant and might soon hit 20000). We thought that the world’s first pandemic this century, swine flu, would result in mass fatalities. (The pandemic has blown away, less than 200 people in India died.) We thought the expulsion of Jaswant Singh for writing a provocative but boring book would mean disaster for the bjp and its extinction as a serious political formation. (After some hiccups, a fresh, young, eager team is in place; Mr Advani is very much around, and wonder of wonders, there is talk of Mr Jaswant Singh going “home”). We thought the entry of Barack Obama into the White House would usher in a brave, new world with the United States mending its ways. (President Obama is doing terribly and Uncle Sam, as visible in Copenhagen, has not changed his stripes.)…. The Foolish Colors Fought Each Other
(Unity is Strength)
An illustration received through mail, it talks about the unity of brethren
"Unity is strength" The age old story about UNITY. There are different stories round the corner on this subject. But here is a unique one i just received the other day in my mail box. Let me take this opportunity to share this with you to my fellow knol readers and authors. Thanks for your precious time.
A colorful New Year & An Year of Unity

"Once upon a time the colors of the world started to quarrel. All claimed that they were the best. The most important. The most useful. The favorite.
Green said: "Clearly I am the most important. I am the sign of life and of hope. I was chosen for grass, trees and leaves.
Without me, all animals would die. Look over the countryside and you will see that I am in the majority."
Blue interrupted: "You only think about the earth, but consider the sky and the sea. It is the water that is the basis of life and drawn up by the clouds from the deep sea. The sky gives space and peace and serenity. Without my peace, you would all be nothing."
Yellow chuckled: "You are all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety, and warmth into the world. The sun is yellow, the moon is yellow, the stars are yellow. Every time you look at a sunflower, the whole world starts to smile. Without me there would be no fun."
Orange started next to blow her trumpet: "I am the color of health and strength. I may be scarce, but I am precious for I serve the needs of human life. I carry the most important vitamins. Think of carrots, pumpkins, orange, mangoes, and papayas. I don't hang around all the time, but when I fill the sky at sunrise or sunset, my beauty is so striking that no one gives another thought to any of you."
Red could stand it no longer he shouted out: "I am the ruler of all of you. I am blood - life's blood! I am the color of danger and of bravery. I am willing to fight for a cause. I bring fire into the blood. Without me, the earth would be as empty as the moon. I am the color of passion and of love, the red rose, the poinsettia and the poppy."
Violet rose up to his full height: He was very tall and spoke with great pomp: "I am the color of royalty and power. Kings, chiefs, and bishops have always chosen me for I am the sign of authority and wisdom. People do not question me! They listen and obey."
Indigo spoke, more quietly than others, but with determination: "Think of me. I am the color of silence. You hardly notice me, but without me you all become superficial. I represent thought and reflection, twilight and deep water. You need me for balance and contrast, for prayer and inner peace."
And so the colors went on boasting, each convinced of his or her own superiority. Their quarreling became louder and louder. Suddenly there was a startling flash of bright lightening thunder rolled and boomed. Rain started to pour down relentlessly. The colors crouched down in fear, drawing close to one another for comfort.
In the midst of the clamor, God began to speak: "You foolish colors, fighting amongst yourselves, each trying to dominate the rest. Don't you know that you were each made for a special purpose, unique and different? Join hands with one another and come to me."
Doing as they were told, the colors united and joined hands.
God continued: "From now on, when it rains, each of you will stretch across the sky in a great bow of color as a reminder that you can all live in peace. The Rainbow is a sign of hope for tomorrow." And so, whenever a good rain washes the world, and a Rainbow appears in the sky, let us remember to appreciate one another.
Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore. (Psalm 133).
