An American Computer Scientist’s New Found Theory on Death: A Christian Perspective

‘DEATH’ The word itself creates a kind of fear in people. But, here is a breaking news; the media put it as “The Biggest Breaking News Ever!” IN 20 YEARS, SCIENCE MIGHT MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO LIVE FOR EVER. What a wonderful revelation.
This news item has published in the latest edition of the “The Sunday Indian” news weekly (the only news magazine on earth in 14 languages) edited and published by Prof. Arindam Chaudhuri, a world renewed management guru (teacher). He said in his editorial, “A scientist claiming that those who live for another twenty odd years might actually go on to live forever. The scientist, Ray Kurzweil, has been dubbed by none other than Bill Gates as the ‘smartest futurist on earth’. So when he speaks, you listen. As per Ray in another twenty years, science would probably invent ways to re-programme our bodies and thereby reverse the ageing process; and then nano-technology would let us live forever! Read more @ www.arindamchaudhuri.blogspot.com

The story begins like this: “There will be no requirement for a centralized pumping station such as heart. Blood will flow in natural motion. Many organs such as lever, lungs, kidney, small intestine and large intestine will be absent. This is not a utopia but will be a reality in future. Respyrobytes will enhance the oxygen-storing ability of blood manifold. We will be able to run as quick as Usain Bolt. Our brain will go through many revolutionary changes and its capacity to memorize things, its retention power and logical ability will grow million times. The body will receive energy in the form of micro nutrients and through the skin. So, it will not produce excreta. Then, comes the phase of ‘singularity’. This means amalgamation of machine and man. It will ultimately lead towards immortality. Once this becomes a reality, then we will successfully make our virtual image. This will empower us with many super human abilities. For example, a single man will be able to be present in more than one place at the same time.” Read more @ www.thesundayindian.com under the caption man 3.0.

Readers Digest also published this news in its November issue quoted him as saying “The 57 seven year old scientist thinks he’ll replace his body parts indefinitely. Ray asks, “How long does a house last?” “If you upgrade it, indefinitely.” Of course, a house isn’t a biological organism. But Kurzweil says that by the 2040s, human beings will be “mostly nonbiological.” www.re-india.com

This is exposed in a book written by a US computer engineer Ray Kurzveil. Its intriguing news to the common man but the Indian scientist community termed kurzveil’s claim of immortality is ridiculous. Dr. Sathees C Raghavan, Asst. Professor of biochemistry, Indian Institute of Science Bengalure feels the hullabaloo over his words is really unnecessary. “Actually Ray is not an experimental biologist. He is a well known computer scientist and he is well-versed in computer science. But his prediction on human longevity lacks scientific basis. There is not scientific corroboration for his claim. He is being fanciful here. Like Raghavan most of the Indian scientists refute Ray’s claim.

But, the science and its community are on their experience find a way to live for ever. But that desire itself will be dead against to God’s purpose of creating us on this earth. The God’s Word (The Bible) very clearly teaches us about our birth, death and the purpose of our life on this earth. We don’t want to live for ever for a miserable life on this earth. The life (the time span on earth), which the God gave us is more than enough. And that will no doubt be a joyous one. If we seek more, no doubt it would be a horrible and miserable one on this earth. So sad to say, this kind of desire to capture the place of God is not a scientist’s fault. It started at the beginning of creation, Adam and Eve desired to be God but faced the consequences. I am really happy about the Indian scientists' response to the US computer scientist Raymond’s new findings. They bluntly rejected the mere possibility of it. I really appreciate the Indian scientists' vision and stand on this issue.

No doubt as Christians our response to such claims too can be more or less like the Indian scientists’ community. But we have a clearer cut hope and belief in this matter. In Genesis 3:19 we read: ”By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” The Bible very emphatically states that “ones death and then the judgment is ordained for man”. Yes, according to the Bible death and judgment is appointed to all, of course there are few exemption to this, in the case of Enoch (Gen. 5:24; Heb. 11:5) and Elijah (II Kings 2:11 also read 1Cor. 15:51; 1Thes. 4:17).
In the Old Testament itself the word ‘death’ or the death related subjects are mentioned in 150 times.
There is no doubt about man’s death, it is definite, from the beginning of our birth step by step we are moving towards death, nobody knows when it is, but it is for sure that everyone on this earth should face this eternal truth.

But here is rejoicing news to the people who accepted Jesus Christ as there Lord and Savior. For them there is no death they are exempted from the eternal death, of course they will die physically but the soul in them will go back to the one who gave and they will live with Him forever. For His people there is no death as the people of this world, so flocks take heart we are going to live forever with our Savior Jesus Christ. What a comforting thought it is! The people of this world are worried about their life on this earth and try to do what all possible thing to live forever, how sad will be their fate, so sad to think about the fate of the above said computer scientists and his community.

So my dear fellow Christian believers how soothing and comforting it is to know about that pleasant position we have in Christ Jesus. If anyone reading this who are not tasted Christ’s Love, this is the good opportunity to accept Him as your Lord and Savior in your life. Since death is definite, it may approach you at any time, before that happens, take this greatest ever decision you can take on this earth. Please don’t keep it for tomorrow. If you delay it today it may not happen for tomorrow. The Bible says, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.” (Proverbs 27:1). So take this serious and vital decision in your life today itself and win Christ and live for ever. May God help you. PV

His Love is So Amazing

(It’s about the greatest love ever experienced and told)

The Creator God so loved the world

It’s so amazing and

That can be unexplainable

NOTE:

LORD the Creator of this universe loved this world so much that He gave us His only begotten son for us. Not just He gave us, but He sacrificed Him on the cross of Calvary to save us from the eternal damnation. Yes, He died for our sins. With His stripes we are healed. It pleased the Lord to bruise Him for our sake. Indeed it’s so amazing, unspeakable and unfathomable. This love is so deep that no one on earth can explain it.

Do Plants Have Sensitivity? A Pumpkin Mourned a Death and Similar Other Incidents Says YES

(An Open Blog to Share Your Views and Suggestions)

This knol is about some unbelievable incidents happened few years back. This knol is also a call for an open discussion on this subject. Do plants have feelings? I believe that the community of knol writers here can bring in some solution or answer to these questions.

Here below I am giving an incident happened in my life few years back and still the vivid memory is haunting in my mind. This is an open platform to air your views on this issue.

Few years back when I published this incident in a local daily and many responded to it but I could not find a solid explanation to this incident. One of the readers’ response was more surprising. A similar chain of incidents happened in his life that too is given below. Reading together these incidents I hope and believe that our scientific community here at knol can bring in some answer to it. Is it a mere coincidence happened at that time? Or any scientific theory involved in it? Will someone from the scientific community have any answer to such incidents? I hereby invite my fellow knol writers as well as the browsers to co-author this knol.

Incident Number one:

A Pumpkin Mourned a death.
The mother of a friend of mine, (lovingly I call her ‘Chittamma’—mother's younger sister) had planted a pumpkin creeper near their ancestral house compound at Valanjavattom near Thiruvalla (Kerala) that had a portion with thatched roof. Apart from this creeper many other plants and trees were growing in the same compound. Chittamma is the one who lovingly take care of these plants and other small trees.

Every time, especially when the annual vacation or other holidays come, we all gather together and play cricket and other games in their vast compound. In such occasions I used to noticed her special care and love towards the plants and trees growing in the compound. A pumpkin creeper had spread all over the roofing. A fairly big pumpkin most ripened. Her husband suggested many times to her to cut it down for use, but she, for no apparent reason, always avoided it and used to change the topic by saying that there was no hurry and that it would be taken down when some special occasion arose. She thus allowed it to remain where it was and since the family was not interested in cutting it down they almost forgot about it.

Days passed by Chittamma fell sick and died. It so happened that while we were all assembled near her death-bed-sad and morose-that pumpkin, in full view of her, broke itself off the creeper and rolled down from the thatched roof on to the ground below. The fall almost to the minute coincided with her death. Later, this pumpkin was used for her own post death ceremonies on the suggestion of my friend's father who felt that probably the pumpkin was being kept her for this very special occasion. Chittamma's death and the coincided death of the pumpkin still remain as a mystery to me.

Incident Number Two:
These incidents happened few years back. Let me put it in his own words: “We were living in the village in Bhagatpur district of Bihar State. My father, grand father and uncle planted a mango sapling, a guava sapling and an apple sapling respectively in our family courtyard. Other trees and plants were also growing in the same compound. They have given all necessary care to grow these plants; my mother also actively helped them in watering these plants. It grows well and started giving fruits.

Few years later my grandfather went to Varanasi in connection with our family business. In the year 1957 he expired at Varanasi, the same week the guava plant he planted in the village dried up. This is not an isolated incident. In the year 1960 my father also went to Varanasi. The day he departed the village in Bihar the mango tree he planted started withering and in few days time it completely got dried up. Few years later my uncle also died at Varanasi, and the apple plant he planted in the village also died in the same week”.

These incidents may be amazing and unbelievable one to many of you. But there is no doubt some mystery behind the death of these plants and trees.

This type of strange reactions of plants and trees need a little rethinking. May be they are also capable of sorrow and happiness. Sometimes science may not recognize this as facts. There are many references in literature that plants too have feelings. But this is not convincing as poets and writers have a world of their own, where birds and animals' talk and smile etc. The incident which I witnessed may not be enough for a scientific theory. But I firmly believe that many such instances and their statistical analysis might yield some positive results.

At the same time it is more difficult to arrive at a scientific conclusion if our observations are added with emotions and presumptions are drawn with a biased mind.

It would not be out of place to say that plants are at a very low level of consciousness when compared to animals. Pain, pleasure, longing, love, hatred, kindness, contentment and sympathy are the feelings of higher forms of life. Association of higher feelings with a lower level of consciousness sometimes may not appear convincing.

IS JESUS CHRIST CRUCIFIED on THREE NAILS?

(A Feedback to a Write-up

This is a feedback to a write-up "Utter three words for Jesus, At least?* appeared in one of the editions of Light of Life magazine published from Mumbai, India. In its July 2009 edition the writer Mr. Duke Jayraj wrote This article.

That was really a thought provoking read. Yes how well it would have been if every Christian believer followed this formula of three little words, "Come and See", No doubt there would have been a tremendous growth in number of Christ's followers. Unfortunately this is not happening even among ten percentages of the believers.

Albert McMackin Billy Graham incident is an apt illustration in the write-up. The author presented the theme in an orderly way. But unfortunately at the concluding paragraph the writer said, "Jesus took 3 nails on his body to die for you." This is surprise information to me. Where in the Bible it's mentioned that Christ is crucified on 3 nails, nowhere in the Bible I could find this 3 nails story. I doubt if it is there in the writer's new found version-NLT- (read his article on NLT version in one of the previous issue of Light of Life). I firmly believe no version gives the number of nails in which Christ is crucified.

It is a common belief that Christ is crucified on three nails. Even some believers while preaching and praying use this 3 nails phrase! Some Christian song writers too have composed their songs with this 3 nails theory. This is a common mistake happened and is still prevailing in many Christian groups. Of course the number of nails is not a criterion here. In Christ's time there were different forms of crosses were used for crucifixion so we cannot come to a conclusion that what type of cross was used for Christ's crucifixion. So, when we preach, pray and write using this phrase will create a kind of confusion.

Of course His Coming on this earth, Crucifixion, Resurrection and the Second Coming is more important than anything else to a real believer. The situation forced me to note this point for the further correction of my fellow Christian believers.

Like Andrew-Philip and Albert, let us introduce our Savior to others not with an eloquent speech or a juicy writing but with few little words. Above all our action speaks louder.  Let us, note that the people around us are keenly watching us, and let us behave properly and through our activities let others know about the Truth and the Real Light of this world. Let us be an apt instrument in His hand.  Let us together work for His Kingdom's extension.  “…the end of all thing is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.”1 Peter 4:7 (NKJV)

My sincere thanks to Mr. Duke Jeyraj for this thought provoking piece.

Here is Mr. Duke's Write-up: *

Utter three words for Jesus, Atleast?

“Andrew, can you preach so that 300 people are saved and baptized after a single sermon like your brother Peter?" "No way!" "What can you do then?" "I introduce people to Jesus.. I introduced my brother Peter to Jesus. It was I who told him, 'Bhaiya, (brother) I've found the Messiah!" Don't forget... I was the one who introduced the little lad with five loaves and two fishes to Jesus. Arranging an appointment with Jesus for some Greek Philosophers... that was my job" (Jn. 1:40-42; 6:68;12:23-25).

"Philip, how about a sermon dripping with eloquence?" "Sorry, But I can utter words...just three words: "Come and See'!" The result? Nathaniel came to Christ! (Jn. 1:46 NLT). Well, these witness operations don't require a silver tongue. But all they need is a tongue that is willing to be used for Jesus' service. It may mean handing out a tract saying, "This write-up talks about Jesus.. a person who change my life!" it may involve teaching some small kids Bible stories. It may mean guiding a person to a place where he can hear an unclouded presentation of the Gospel... a church or fellowship or a Gospel meeting. Going tongue-in-cheek wondering if this operation would impact anybody at all in this age? Hang on and listen to the story.

Albert McMacking had a thick pal in high school. When a Bible thumping evangelist name Mordecai Ham was in town, he kept pestering this friend of his to go with him and hear Mordecai Ham preach. When this particular friend of Albert's could no longer take this bugging he consented to go to the meetings. Miracle of miracles-he turned over his life to Christ in one of the meetings! Want to guess who 'friend' was? Hold your breath and take his thunderbolt-He was a chap called Billy Graham (event narrated as per information from Billy Graham's autobiography, Just As I Am!). Yes, it was Billy Graham, the man who went onto become the preacher who'd announce the Gospel to the most number of people in the planet in all of history!

Don't waste any time and try out Operation Andrew-Philip: A Billy Graham might be waiting for your "Come and See!" Jesus took 3 nails on His body to die for you. Can't you at least say these words- Come and See-to witness for Him?

SOLOMON THE WISEST MAN WHO EVER LIVED

This is an invitation write-up for "WISE MEN AND WISDOM" by Knol writer Prof. KVSS Narayana Rao. To read more on this subject please visit this link:

http://knol.google.com/k/narayana-rao-k-v-s-s/wise-men-and-wisdom/2utb2lsm2k7a/1793.

If we look at the long list of history’s wise men, Solomon the king of Israel will be seen at the top of the list. No doubt Solomon stands apart from all other wise men of this world. He is considered as the wise man ever lived on earth. There is none like him who obtained the wisdom in the whole earth. His wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt. His wisdom is not obtained from people or from a school or a college but he obtained this from the God of Israel. He spoke 3,000 Proverbs and his songs were 1,005. These ascribed wise sayings are recorded in the Holy Bible in 3 separate books called Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon.

Solomon the son of King David born of Bathsheba, though not in line for the succession yet he was chosen by David and approved of God to be David’s successor. Solomon loved the Lord and walked in the statues of his father David and he did what is pleasing in the sight of God. One day as he was at Gibeon the great high place to offer burnt offerings to God, by night, Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Ask! What shall I give you?” Solomon asked for an understanding heart to judge your people that I may discern between good and evil” this desire pleased the Lord and He said, ”Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice; “Behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. “And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days. So “if you walk in my ways, to keep my statues and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”(1 Kings 3: 3-14)

He was the third king of Israel and he ruled from about 965 B.C. Though David conquered many neighboring states Solomon ruled extensively without using much military force. Under his rule many public works including Temple, palace and many magnificent structures established.

He spoke of men, women, trees, animals, creeping things and birds. People from different destinations visited him knowing about his great wisdom. A detailed life history of Solomon is given in the Bible—first Kings Chapter one to eleven.

Three books of Old Testament, Job, Proverbs and Ecclesiastes are distinctively considered as wisdom books in the Bible. Out of these, Proverbs and Ecclesiastes are ascribed to King Solomon.

Solomon in his young age giving more emphasize to love and related issues wrote ‘Song of Solomon’. In his middle age he gave more importance to the practical aspects of moral rules of life and wrote ‘Proverbs’. At the fag end of his life from his life experience and lessons like a preacher he wrote ‘Ecclesiastes’.

Proverbs chapter 1 verse 1 and 12 indicates that he is the author of this book. Proverbs the twentieth book of the Bible speaks about wisdom and its different aspects. The purpose of this book is to explain how to live wisely, skillfully and purposefully. This is very visible from its first chapter itself, especially first seven verses gives an intro to real way of life. It says as follows:

The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:
To know wisdom and instructions; to perceive the words of understanding; To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; To give subtly to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise councils:
to understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1: 1-7)

Proverbs can also be called ‘a book of practical ethics’.

Solomon’s intellectual attainments become famous that kings and queen came from different parts of the world to hear his wisdom. He was the most powerful and famous king in Israel. He was noted for his wisdom, riches and literary works.

Hearing the Wisdom of Solomon Queen Sheba came to test him with hard questions. He answered all her questions with much ease. She was much delighted at Solomon’s wisdom and praised him and gave one hundred and twenty talents of gold, spices in great abundance, and precious stones. There never again came such abundance of spices as the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon. (1 Kings 10:12).

He talked like a learned scientist and handled subjects like Botany and Zoology with much ease. He ruled like a well experienced leader. He took the decision quickly and wisely, his verdict in the case of two harlots and the child is well known. (1 Kings 3: 16-27)

He was a successful businessman with different enterprises under his control. Under his rule the country progressed tremendously in the business field. Business transactions are done through land and sea. Archeological surveys’ reveals that he had business dealings with Arabian countries. He owned and governed the business area between Arabia and Mesopotamia and between red sea and pameer. “The weight of gold that came to Solomon yearly was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold, (an approximate of $ 3,836,160,000), besides that from the traveling merchants, from the income of traders, from all the kings of Arabia, and from the governors of the country”. (1 Kings 10:14-15)

He was s poet moralist and a preacher. Read book of first Kings Chapter 4 and 9.

It deals with the especially to convey emphasizing righteousness and fear of God. It gives guidance to, how to relate God, parent, children, neighbors, rulers etc.

He covered numerous subjects connected with practical aspects of day to day life. It gives guidance to how to relate God, parent children neighbors rulers etc. also wrote on subjects like, Knowledge of God, fear of God, Wisdom, righteousness, knowledge, morality, chastity, diligence, tithes, concern towards poor, right usage of wealth, mercy towards enemies, selection of life partner, business, honesty, control of tongue, instruction of children, truthfulness, laziness, idleness, kindness, happiness, and common sense.

Solomon’s wisdom and knowledge made him an example to all the world of the wisdom of God’s ideas. Proverbs is considered as one of the “Best Guide Books to success that a young man can follow”.

Though Solomon considered as a wise king and had everything in his life, but his end days shows that he was not a happy person with all those wealth and welfare he had.

In the book Ecclesiastes Solomon the preacher looks at life under the sun from the human perspective and says, “Everything under the sun is vanity, money, power, popularity, prestige, pleasure nothing can fill the emptiness created by God but only God can. When everything looks from God’s perspective will come in line with a meaningful and purposeful life.

Vanity is the main theme of this book; the author provides a way out to this problem, he explains how to live a best life in such world. King David struggled a lot to build a kingdom, whereas Solomon could sit on the throne very peacefully where his father had built with all riches. A man who enjoyed everything in life in its full extend repeatedly said; everything under the sun is vain. This book is the creation of his old age and it gives us a clear picture that with all splendor and glory he was having was not sufficient to keep him happy, instead he says everything is vanity. Thirty seven times this word “vanity” is repeated in this book.

But very interestingly he concluded the whole affairs in these words, “Fear God and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man, for God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it is good or whether it be evil (Ch. 12: 13-14)

He ends the book with an alert; “Good Life” is only attained by holding God in the highest regard. He says, “Remember thy creator in the days of thy youth while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them (12:1). He exhorts the youth to use life well. Youth is too short and live well in the fullness of each day before God and acknowledge Him in early days of your youth.

This book can be analysis with following words:

1. The Experience of the preacher 1:1-4:16
2. The Estimation of the preacher experience 5:1-10:20
3. The Evaluation of the preacher 11:1-10
4. The Exhortation for the preacher 12:1-14

SONGS OF SONGS

This book of Solomon is considered as one of the most controversial book in the Bible. A Rabbinic writer called this book as one of God’s greatest gifts to Israel and from all the holy writing of the Old Testament has singled it out as the holy of holies. At the same time some regarded it as highly erotic and lustful. A careful study of this book will show that it guards itself delicately against any profamation of love either by eroticism or severity. Instead it is a beautiful and candid picture of the transparency of intimate love within the union of marriage.

The Bible Scholar James Hastings said, “The popular poetry of Israel would be a blank had there not been handed down to us the beautiful poem, springing out of the very life and Old Testament literature would have been incomplete without this poem of human love”.

Song of Songs the twenty second book in the Bible is a love song abounding in different descriptions and oriental imagery. Historically it depicts the love of a shepherdess and a king. It is like a one act play with different scenes. The story very well reveals that Solomon is the groom, Shulamite the bride, and daughters of Jerusalem the chorus are the main characters in this love story. In 1 Kings 4:32 there is a note about Solomon’s 1005 songs. Out of those songs this stands apart as Song of Songs. Because of its typical description style below 30 years old were not permitted to read these songs.

The following verses (1:1, 5; 3:7, 9, 11; 8:11, 12) in the book clearly show that Solomon is the author of this book. When he was writing these songs he was having sixty wives and eighty concubines and many virgins in the waiting list. (6:8) later it went up to seven hundred wives, princesses and three hundred concubines (1Kings 11:3)

The song is an acknowledgment of the joys of a married life. The purpose of the book is to portray the actual relationship between Solomon and the Shulamite maiden. Their relationship reveals the real love in the marriage. It symbolically speaks the loving relationship between God and Israel as husband and wife and Christ and the Church as Bridegroom and Bride (Hosea 2: 19-20; Ephesians 5: 25-33).

It can be somewhat analysis like this:

1. The Bride and bridegroom’s conversation Chapter 1—3:6
2. The Bride’s decision to accept the Bridegroom’s invitation 3:7—5:1
3. The Bride’s dream about the bridegroom’s departure 5:2—6:3
4. The Bride and Bridegroom’s delight in their love. 6:4—8:14

This book skillfully portrays the love of a married couple.

Though Solomon was a wise person there were some notable sins in his life. Here below are given a list of those sins:

1. He set his mind to know madness and folly. Ecc. 1:17
2. He spent time to pleasure and enjoyments. Ecc. 2:1
3. He fully entrusted his life to wine and amusements. Ecc. 2:3
4. He set his heart to fetch folly. 2:3
5. He mingled his mind and body to procure wealth (gold, silver
and other treasures), musicians (men and women) and pleasures
of men (women, concubines) of this world. 2:8
6. Without any limit he mingled in the pleasures of the body. 2:10
7. He accepted many wives (he had 700 wives and 300 concubines)
1 Kings 11:3
8. He worshiped the god of other nations. 1 Kings. 11:4
