INDIA SET TO GET A NEW RUPEE SYMBOL

This designs are made by chethstudios.net
NEW DELHI: July 17 2010, In keeping with India’s growing economic might and its status as a major investment destination, the hitherto humble rupee is all set to get a distinct identity in the form of a new symbol. The Union Cabinet on Thursday gave its approval to the symbol which combines the Roman letter ‘R’ with the Devnagri ‘Ra’ .

The symbol will catapult the rupee into the company of four ‘elite’ currencies which have similarly distinct identities — the US dollar, euro, yen and British pound.

The symbol has been designed by D Udaya Kumar, an IIT Bombay post-graduate , who has just joined as a teacher at IIT Guwahati. Kumar will receive a prize money of Rs 2.5 lakh for his efforts. The symbol will standardize the expression for the Indian rupee in different languages, both within and outside the country.

"It is very important for India to have a symbol for the rupee. In terms of other currencies, like the dollar or the Euro, there is no ambiguity on how the currency is represented. It will also make calculation easier, especially when you have data on an excel sheet," says Pradeep Parappil, lead product manager, (Windows/Windows Live), Microsoft India.  Read More. Here & Here

"Well Done Dr. Tulasi, We are proud of you, though you are humiliated in August 2001 with false allegation in Germany by some scientists, you have now come out with flying colors with all praise from everywhere. I just heard yesterday your interview with Rajdeep Sardesai of CNN IBN, my respect towards you is increased a hundred fold. Keep up my boy oh! sorry Prof. Saheb,  your aim to reach the Nobel prize.     THE HOLE THAT STUNNED THE WHOLE WORLD

Hole Drilled by the storm called 'Agatha'
The month of June woke up with a stunning image of a naughty nature that decided to drill a perfect hole in Guatemala City, Central America. On May 31, armed with a `drilling machine' called Agatha, a tropical storm, nature burred a massive and perfectly circular sinkhole right in the middle of a highly populated area. The hole swallowed an entire intersection gulping down a clothing factory in a matter of seconds. A combination of rainwater saturating the ground after tropical storm Agatha, which swept through Central America and poor drainage systems were blamed as the cause of the hole that looks bottomless. The sinkhole is being reported as 30 meters (98 feet) in diameter and 60 meters (196 feet) deep. See More such stunning pictures click Here

The grand old lady was seen chopping onions at home in a village in South Sumatra. Officials discovered the woman during a national census and they believe Turinah's claim to have been born in 1853. Which means she was born before the World Wars, much before the first aeroplane, telephone, cars, television were invented. The secret of her health? Well, plain living and stress-free life.  See more news Here

INFORMATIVE WEEK-END READ

“Life is short. Have an affair,”

The commercial was ending as I returned with my snack into the living room. The website address and the catch phrase remained on the screen like a stain on the carpet.  “Life is short. Have an affair,” read the website’s catch phrase. My shock was entangled with confusion and disbelief. Was this a crude joke? Did I just see an advertisement promoting an extra-marital affair? Has the concept of “Whatever happens here stays here” overtaken every aspect of life ? Read More

AND NOW, ELECTRICITY FROM POULTRY LITTER!

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) engaged in poultry farming in Haryana will soon use poultry litter to generate power for the state power grid.
The initiative, by a cluster of over 150 poultry farms in Haryana's Barwala belt, will convert poultry litter into power, thereby both checking environmental pollution and adding to the power availability in the region.
The project is being implemented by Green Industry Bio Energy Private Limited, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) formed by Emergent Ventures and US-based Indus Terra.
The power project, costing Rs 62 crore, will convert poultry manure into electricity and slurry into fertilizer by the process of anaerobic digestion at a high temperature through a process called thermophilic digestion.
The President of the Haryana Poultry Farmers' Association, Pramod Singla, said poultry excreta had become a health hazard, apart from emitting a stench.
Members of the association conducted a study on how the litter could be utilized, and came up with the idea of a power plant.
The 5.6 Mw power project would be built in two phases. Phase one would have a capacity of 1.4 Mw and the second phase 4.2 Mw. Read More:
