AUSTRALIA GETS ITS

PRIME MINISTER
Prime Minister Julia Gillard
(Reuters) - June 24 Australia appointed its first woman Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, who vowed on Thursday to end division over a controversial mining tax, resurrect a carbon trade scheme and call elections within months.
Former prime minister Kevin Rudd made an emotional and ignominious exit, quitting just before the center-left Labor Party was to dump him in an internal ballot and less than three years after a stunning election victory in 2007.
The Rudd government's dramatic slide in support this year sparked fears within the ruling party of an electoral defeat at a poll expected around October. T V Watchers Beware!!!e
Every hour of Television watching increases your risk of heart disease..ware!!
Couch Potato
Pic. stock.xchng
Washington, DC:June 24 2010. Every hour you put in watching the World Cup on TV, your risk of dying from a heart disease increases by 7%, says a new study.
British researchers have found that if the average of four hours of television a day in the study were reduced to one hour, then 8% of deaths from heart disease could have been prevented.
The link between TV and heart disease was still strong even when lack of exercise, obesity, diet and smoking were taken into account.
This implies that watching TV was independently linked to heart disease and the effect is not simply due to be inactive while watching television.
Conducted by the Medical Research Council, the research, examined more than 13,000 healthy middle-aged men and women in Norfolk.
Over the 10-year study, 373 of the 13,197 participants or one in 35 died from heart disease.
Of these deaths, 30 could have been prevented if the average person watched one hour of television per day instead of four.
“Our bodies are not designed to sit for long periods and we should be aware that, as we put in the TV-hours watching the World Cup, our risk of heart disease is probably increasing,” the Telegraph quoted Dr Katrien Wijndaele, co-author of the study from the MRC, as saying. Read More Here.

Good News to Coffee Drinkers:
Drinking Coffee Offers Protection Against Head and Neck Cancer
Coffee with snacks
pic. credit. sxc.hu
Washington, DC June 23 2010: A new study has revealed that drinking coffee offers protection against head and neck cancers.
For the study, scientists used information from a pooled-analysis of nine studies collected by the International Head and Neck Cancer Epidemiology (INHANCE) consortium.
The participants who were regular coffee drinkers, that is, those who drank an estimated four or more cups a day, compared with those who were non-drinkers, had a 39 percent decreased risk of oral cavity and pharynx cancers combined.
Data on decaffeinated coffee was too sparse for detailed analysis, but indicated no increased risk. Tea intake was not associated with head and neck cancer risk.
The association is more reliable among those who are frequent, regular coffee drinkers, consuming more than four cups of coffee a day.
"Since coffee is so widely used and there is a relatively high incidence and low survival rate of these forms of cancers, our results have important public health implications that need to be further addressed," said lead researcher Mia Hashibe, assistant professor in the department of family and preventive medicine at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, and a Huntsman Cancer Institute investigator. Is May 2013 The End of the World?
A News Report from NASA Says: “Earth and space are coming together in a way that’s new to human history. A solar storm, which is essentially violent eruptions in the sun, can eject destructive radiation and charged particles into space.”
There are reports of a geomagnetic storm sparked by a huge solar flare that swept over the Earth in 1859. Telegraph wires shorted out and set houses on fire. A brilliant aurora was seen in Hawaii—so bright that “people could read newspapers by [its] red and green glow.”
Scientists predict that in May 2013, the sun’s solar cycle will peak at about the same level as
in 1859. (This content courtesy a post on These are closely connected to magnetic fields – which are hazardous for satellites and space stations. Scientists predict that in May 2013, the sun’s solar cycle will peak at about the same level asin 1859. (This content courtesy a post onGawker.com)

According to the Global Peace Index. India has slipped to the 128th position ranking along with Pakistan and Sri Lanks. In 2007 India was ranked at 109th position.

Akash along with his older brother, Gautama, 15, were asked to leave the premises by the building owners who said it was private property owned by H J Kalikow. The media was also not allowed to film on the property.
