HERE IS AN ALERT TO ALL.  A MESSAGE JUST RECEIVED IT IN MY INBOX.  I AM JUST POSTING IT HERE AS IT IS RECEIVED.
PLEASE PASS ON THIS MESSAGE TO YOUR NEAR AND DEAR AND SAVE A LIFE. P V.

Stroke has a new indicator     If you email this to ten people, you stand a chance of saving one life.  Will you send this along?  Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator,  the Tongue

Description:

cid:X.MA2.1325793276@aol.com

I will continue to forward this every time it comes around!

STROKE:
Remember the 1st Three Letters..... S. T. R.

STROKE  IDENTIFICATION:

During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) ...she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.

Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 PM Jane passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this.

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR. Read and

Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a  bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S  *
Ask the individual to SMILE.

T  *
Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A

SIMPLE SENTENCE  (Coherently)

(I.e. It is sunny out today.)

R
*Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call
an emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE:  Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue. If the tongue is
'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

I have done my part. Will you?

A to Z Challenge My Reflection Post....

Pic Credit. A to Z Blog Challenge
My joining in into this challenge itself is an unexpected one. I heard about this challenge from one of my long associate web friend. Without any hesitation I decided to join in.

Though it's a pleasant surprise and altogether a new experience I registered for the challenge.

I have decided to do some home work to float with the group.  Thought of different subjects for each word and each day, thus made a list too. In the initial stage it was really encouraging and thought of different subjects to write with, but unfortunately could not reach to the other end.

The reason for my stumbling down half way is an unexpected visit to my native land, the God's Own Country Called Kerala.  Travel towards to the southern state without pre-planning is really tough, getting a reservation in the peak summer  holidays is another big head ache,  one need to reserve the ticket two months in advance, but in my case it was a sudden decision and the ticket was not confirmed and somehow got the reservation under the tatkal (temporary) quota  of the Railways.

Though I could not reach the finishing line, i can very well say that it was really a challenging one and i could interact with many new faces in the blogging field.  I am so happy to note that   joining in this challenge made a tremendous improvement in my PVs and traffic.

Though i could not respond to many blog posts, I could notice a great traffic flow into my blog, I am sure many visited   but due to the time limit many could not respond to it.

No doubt its really a new experience in my web writing arena. I have decided to take part in the upcoming events.

I take this opportunity to thank and appreciate Arlee Bird, Alex Cavanaugh and their team associates for their relentless supports and help rendered to the bloggers, I have noticed Lee’s initiative in answering and commenting back to the authors about their questions, doubts etc.  This is really and encouraging thing to the blog authors.  Even in spite of his busy schedule he attended many queries. This is really an appreciative trend which can found very rare among the established bloggers/authors.  I am sure that this will definitely give a boost to the newbies as well as to the stalwarts.

I have a suggestion.  If suppose one blogger missed his day to post the challenge on the stipulated day, he should be allowed to post it on a later date, that is before the end of the closing date.  This will definitely help the one who miss out in between.

My sincere thanks to Lee and his associates to take up this challenge a success.

I wish all of them good and bright days ahead.

Thanks to one and all for their kind visit and comments.

Best Regards,
Ariel and Associates

PS: I am sorry to note that there are many bloggers who never respond even to their followers, This is really an upsetting trend i found in the blog challenge. We need to think on this issue seriously. "Help us to help you better" Let this be our motto in the days ahead. Best. Philip V Ariel.

Nature's Wonders!! Miracle Working Medicines From the Nature: Limes/Lemons

N For Nature: Some Miracle Working Wonders From the Nature:
Limes and Lemons Pic. Credit: Sxc.hu
Our nature is filled with miracle working living things like plants and trees.  Here is yet  another Wonder working Tree and its fruits  Limes and Lemons

A Brief History and its Medicinal Uses.

Limes As the title says: “Lime is no doubt a wonder fruit.  It is a rounded fruit that is pointed at both ends and it is greener than lemon to which it is associated.  Its origin is Asia around India Burma and Malaysia.  And it is now mostly grown in Mediterranean basin, the West Indies, Mexico, Florida and south California and other nations.  It is estimated that this plant is cultivated in these regions for about 2500 years.  The Arabs introduced this to Europe, they brought them to Spain in the 11th century. Almost the same time it is introduced to the African countries.  It is believed that Christopher Columbus brought this to America in his second voyage to the New World in 1493.

Like limes lemon also is a small oval citrus fruit and generally it feature a yellow color.  Its inner flesh is encased in segments with an average lemon having eight to ten. Scientifically it is known as Citrus Limon.

Though it is tart to bite it flavor to many other foods, and  it is a very refreshing  too.  There are two types of lemon one is sweet in flavor and other is sour lemons.

Its Health Benefits are countless.  Its flavonoids compounds contents do wonders to the human body which works as antioxidant and anti-cancer properties.  Compounds in limes and lemons generally called lemonade can fight cancers of mouth, skin, lung, breast stomach and colon.  It is found as a best cancer fighting source.  The vitamin C contents in limes helps to fight cancer. A recent study (Johns Hopkin University)reveals how vitamins C in limes fights cancer cells.  The content of Vitamin C in limes are 32% and fiber content is 8%.

Limonoids , compounds that giv limes and other citrus fruits their bitter tase, have shown anti-cancer promise in animal studies,  Limonene a phytochemical found in the zest of limes, may also help prevent cancer.

Limes: Pic. Credit. croco sxc.hu
Yet another study conducted by the Harvard university  says: High intakes of citrus fruits, citrirus fruit juices and vitamin C- rich fruits and vegetables helped reduce the risk of oral cancer by 30 to 40 percent.

It is very interesting to note that if you rearrange the letter “LIMES” and you get the word “SMILE” that is exactly true that it gives your mouth plenty to smile about.
Scurvy caused by vitamin C deficiency is bleeding gums, gums can become swollen, purple and spongy . by sucking on limes will reduce this condition of gums.  Gingivitis and periodontics a more advanced form of gum diseases  this can fight by taking more Vitamin C a powerful killer of bacteria.  Lime can play a vital role here, a lime gives you 119.5 mg of vitamin C, or 32 percent of the recommended Daily value.

Though it is good and a wonder working fruit , Here is an alert!!!
Or a word of caution, No doubt it goes well with most of the foods but they don’t  always mix with medication.  Like grapes limes may interact with some prescription drugs leading to higher than usual concentration of the drug in your bloodstream.  In fact, Japanese researchers advise people to avoid any citrus juice when taking medication.  Ask your doctor when you should stay away from limes.

Limes gives a good protection against Rheumatoid Arthritis.  Vitamin C rich foods like limes and lemons provide protection against inflammatory polyarthritis a form of rheumatoid arthritis.  Vitamin C can be helpful for preventing the development and progression of atherosclerosis and diabetic heart diseases.

For the better function of a strong immune system vitamin C is very essential, immune system main goal is to protect you from illness so a bit extra vitamin C may help to reduce the condition of colds, flu and other ear infections.  So the usage of vegetables and fruits high in this nutrient is very much associated with a reduced risk of death from all causes including heart diseases, stroke and cancer.

In fact limes and lemon can work wonders in human body.

M for Milk – ‘the Complete food’ a short History and its Medicinal benefits. Or Breast Milk Is the Best Milk

Pic. credit. mynutritiondegree.com
When I was thinking of the next word challenge “M” the word Milk appeared before me first.
Since it is a vital substance for the survival of a child since its birth.

In my school days I used to say or learn a phrase like this, indeed a lesson in the lower primary classes.

Amma yenikku kaachiya paal tharum athu kudikkaanjaal amma

That is in English “Mother gives me milk, if I do not drink mother will cry”

Its shows the importance of milk drinking for the survival a baby.

Yes, as it is said and known that “Milk is a complete (whole) food.

It is very essential for a child’s (or for that matter any species) growth for a certain period of time.  Human babies drink their mother’s milk and it contains all the nutrients—vitamins and minerals—that is needed for a babe’s growth.

Another example, kittens live off strictly on their mothers milk for 5 or 6 weeks and then the mother weans them and they start eating solid foods. During the first 5-6 weeks of their life the milk provides all the nutrients their bodies need to stay healthy.

The history of milk drinking started thousands of years back.  People have been drinking raw milk of animals.  Though it is known as raw milk, the milk is now consumed only after cooking or boiling.  But in the beginning the milk from animals like cows, goats, sheep, camels, yak, buffalos, or horses, donkeys  has been consumed raw.

The Health Benefits of Raw Milk

Credit, myindiapictures.com Source: John Britto
Clean cow milk produced from grass fed cows was used as a medicine in the early part of the last century.

From the time of Hippocrates to till just after World War II Milk the ‘white blood” nourished and healed millions of people.  It is no doubt a fully balanced food since it contains essential Proteins, amino acids, Carbohydrates, Fats and other Enzymes.   Recent studies reveal that it has powerful antiviral properties as well.

The immunoglobulin also known as antibodies available in milk helps to reduce the severity of asthma symptoms.   Studies have shown significant loss of these important disease fighters when milk is heated to normal processing temperatures
In short, as the time passed by, humans have learned a lot on how to make the most of milk.  Milk supplies many key nutrients a human wants to live.  These days’ milk packs come in with complete high quality protein, a variety of Vitamin B including B12 and the minerals calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, iodine and selenium.  In fact, from your heart to your bones, milk can play an important role.

Gulping a glass of milk after exercise can help you build your body muscles.  It lowers the boom on high blood pressure.  A study says that men who consumed more diary products tend to have lower blood pressure.  Researchers say that more consumption of diary products helps people with high blood pressure.  A Harvard study too confirms that consuming more diary foods, especially milk may helps to lower your blood pressure.  It contains B12, a nutrient that may help prevent cardiovascular diseases.  Notice that only low-fat diary products not high fat, diary does the trick.

Developing a habit of taking diary products specially milk could slash your risk of certain cancers.  Studies conducted on women proved that getting more calcium from food especially from milk products cut the risk of breast cancer.  In another study milk and yogurt were linked to lower rates of liver cancer.

Yet another report says: “The vitamin B12 found in milk helps wage an anti-cancer campaign, too, this nutrient plays an important role in preventing cancer.  Particularly breast cancer.  Your body needs B12 to free another vitamin folate, from food.  Your cells then use folate to build healthy DNA, your body’s genetic “blueprint,” Getting too little B 12 leaves the folate trapped in food, unusable by your body.  This folate shortage, in turn causes your body to build weak DNA that is more susceptible to cancer causing changes.  So think of milk as a triple threat against cancer with its rich stores so calcium, vitamin D, and B12.”

Since milk supplies lots of calcium its intake helps to build stronger bones.  Fortified milk gives you vitamin D; recent study suggests that meeting your needs for vitamin D is more important than calcium for bone density.  New evidence shows that milk proteins play a big role in building bones, that is to say that milk may be better for bone strength than other diary foods. This is especially important for women who are above 50.

Yet another recent study found it reduced older women’s risk of falling by 46 percent and less active women benefited even more with 65 percent less risk of falling.  Experts explain that vitamin D deficiencies contribute to muscle weakness a major risk factor in falls.  All this shows that you need more of it as you get older to keep your muscles working well.

Milk is an ideal source of nutrients such as vitamin A & B, calcium, carbohydrate, phosphorous, magnesium, protein, zinc and riboflavin.  Milk deficiency can cause severe anemia, osteoporosis and other related illnesses. Milk consumption is very essential to maintain good health and doing normal activities. It is the best source of calcium for all age groups.

Its calcium contents help the bones, and teeth healthy.  Since milk contains a good quantity of water molecules and is considered the best fluid for rehydration.  It is good for dry skin, it can nourish and smoothen your dry skin.  The lactic acid present in milk helps to remove the dead skin cells and rejuvenate your skin.  It also helps in reducing acidity. In fact a glass of milk contains vitamin A & B for good eyesight and increasing RBC count, carbohydrates for vitality and energy, potassium for proper nerve function, magnesium for muscular function, phosphorous for energy release, protein for body repair and growth.

In short milk is no doubt a wonder food and its moderate consumption can do wonders in our life.

LEEK/GARLIC The Little Wonder: a Brief History and Its Medicinal Uses

Pic. Credit. sxc.hu
L for Leeks: Yet another wonderful vegetable products which can act as one of the  miracles of nature.
