J is for Jerusalem And Jesus Christ

Jerusalem:  It is the holy city for Jews, Christians and Muslims.  It is the capital city of a tiny land called Israel.

In the 1948 Arab Israeli war it became divided into two Israel and the Arab Country of Jordan.  Israel held West Jerusalem and Jordan controlled East Jerusalem.  Israel won East Jerusalem in the brief Arab-Israeli war of 1967 and combined it with the western zone.  West Jerusalem is the modern part of the city. East Jerusalem includes the Old City the place for many ancient monuments of holy places.

Jews consider it a holy city because it was their political and religious center in Biblical times.  Around 1000 B.C. King David made Jerusalem the capital of the united Israelite tribes, later David’s son Solomon built the first Temple of the Jews in the city.  Christians consider it holy because Jesus Christ was crucified there, and many events in his life on earth took place in this city.  Muslims believe that Muhammad, the founder of Islam rose to heaven from this city.  It is their third holiest city after Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia.

Jerusalem‘s three-fourth population is Jews.  They live in West Jerusalem where some Christians and Muslims too live. At the same time East Jerusalem’s majority are Arabs, about four-fifth of them are Muslims. Rest is Catholics of the Byzantine Rite or people belonging to Greek Orthodox or Roman Catholic churches.  In short this city stands like a glittering diamond in the geographical centre of the earth.  And the destiny of all mankind is bound up in the life of this unique city.

Interestingly this city is also known as the city of three Sabbaths—Friday (Muslim)
Saturday (Jewish) and
Sunday (Christian).

As said, though it is a tiny little land its presence is visible almost every day in newspapers and other visual media.  If one look from the perspective of the Word of God, one begins to understand the battle that is raging over the status of Jerusalem, the immigration of Russian Jews, the resettlement of Judea and Samaria, and the very principle of Israel’s continued existence.  From its inception it has been set apart from other nations.  That uniqueness of separation is still continuing and it’s fighting for its survival in the midst of a hostile world.

Why its presence is visible every day in the media? What is it that important to this little nation of over a five million people, occupying less than the one percentage of the earth’s surface?  Why such a nation be a stumbling block in international affairs, major nations are discussing it seriously in their debates and decision making?  And why is it the most sought after fiercely contested piece of real estate in the world?

To find out an answer to these questions one need to go into the pages of Bible and need to set Jerusalem and Israel apart from the rest of the world.  The Bible says: "The earth is the Lord’s and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein"  (Psalm 24:1). However God lays special claim to Israel in general, calling it “My Land” and Jerusalem in particular, calling it “My City”

In the eyes of man this city may not qualify as the biggest, the brightest or the best city in the world.  Yes, it lacks many features as the world count as best or greatest city.  Yet it holds a great splendor and glory that is incomparable to many other cities of the world.

Yes, its uniqueness stems from the fact that God has chosen this city to be the capital of His Kingdom.  From His Throne in Jerusalem, the Lord Jesus will rule over the nations, and from the nations people will come up to Jerusalem to worship the King.  The whole earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord and that glory will emanate from Messiah’s Throne in Jerusalem!

Of all the cities in the world, only Jerusalem is referred to as
The Holy City                                     (Isaiah 52:1)
The City of the Great King                 (Matthew 5:35)
The Throne of the Lord                      (Jeremiah 3:17)
The Place of God’s Name                    (2 Chronicles 33:4)
The Object of God’s Love                   (Psalm 87:1-3)
The Cause of God’s Joy                       (Isaiah 65: 19)
The Dwelling Place of God                   (Psalm 135:21)
The Seat of God’s Government            (Isaiah 2:3)
A Crown of Glory and a Royal Diadem (Isaiah 62:3)
The City of Truth                              (Zechariah 8:3)

In this sense, Jerusalem is the most ‘elevated city on the face of the earth!

But today it may be a dim reflection and at worst, a contradiction of its God-given designation.  But people of faith can see through the eye of the Spirit, the restoration of all things that the prophets have spoken.  This process of restoration will be completed in the day of our Lord’s appearing

Jesus Christ: The Savior of the World.

But unfortunately for many Jesus Christ is just a leader of one of the greatest religion in the world.

Yes Christianity or Christian religion was founded on His life and teachings.   But a majority of Christians believe that He is the Son of God who was sent by God the Father to earth to save humanity from their sins.  Even a good number of non-Christians too believe that He was a great and wise teacher lived ever.  In reality He is the Savior of the world. Those who believe in Him have everlasting life.  Yes this belief in Jesus Christ has united people from many lands.  Christians make up the largest religious group in the World.  Muhammad, the founder of Islam regarded Jesus Christ as a great prophet and adopted many of His ideas.  Moral standards of equality, responsibility and care for the weak owe much to Jesus’ lessons in brotherhood and kindness.

The first four books in the Bible’s New Testament tell about Jesus Christ and His life. These books are called Gospels (Good News).

Let Us Not Despise the Word of God: Let Us Heed To It

The Holy Bible

It’s about the wonderful and marvelous Book (The Bible), the human ever received as a gift from God. The writer narrates its importance in an individual’s life. It also reveals the stability and accuracy of the Bible.

We live in a world, which is subject to changes.

Every moment changes are taking place. What we see now disappears the next moment. Those who are in high places today are unceremoniously removed from there tomorrow. But in this transitory world, there remains one thing immovable. That is the Holy Bible, which we possess. But to our own shame and sorrow, we see almost everywhere an increasing tendency to belittle this priceless treasure-The Bible

This book contains the gracious words of Lord Jesus Christ; we should meditate it day and night.

The first Psalm begins with the word ”Blessed”. One godly man had described it as an introduction to Psalms, which he called God’s hymnbook. Whenever we hear the word ”Blessed” the thought that comes immediately to our mind is of ”person who is perfect and self-sufficient, having all things and is in need of nothing”. But in the Holy Writ, this word is used in an entirely different connotation (context). It is used in relation to the word of God. In the Psalms and the gospels, the word” blessed” with the same context is recorded several times. It is further clarified in Revelation 1:3. Many Old Testament saints, from Abraham, are called “blessed” in the Holy Scriptures. But we, the believers are a congregation of blessed men and women, who are elevated to the height and pinnacle of it. Yea, we are a blessed people.

This truth was made clear by the apostle Paul, while writing to the Ephesians (1:3; 2:7). A picture of our highly exalted position today can be viewed there.

The entire joy of the blessed man in Psalm 1 is centered in the law of the Lord. He rejoices in God’s word as a man who happened to find a great booty (Psalm 119:162).

It is a matter of great importance for us to know what the source and object of our joy is. Is it in the pleasures of the world? If so, it is only momentary.

It is a joyful experience to find delight in God and His Word day and night. Such a man is compared to “a tree by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth its fruit in the right season; its leaf also shall not wither”.

The benefits we receive from a tree are many. It has been estimated that a palm tree is useful to man in more than 250 things.

It is also estimated that an ordinary tree inhales approximately 14000 liters of carbon dioxide, and exhales double the quantity of oxygen for human survival.

Just as a tree render selfless service, a godly man is obliged also to serve selflessly. Let us labor without any desire for benefits; God is the rewarder. The root of such shall be established in the word of God.

They receive nourishment from it for growth and maturity. That will also cause blessings to many. Let us receive strength by being rooted in Christ and His word, like the tree planted by the riverside. Those who are not so shall disappear like the chaff driven away by the wind (1:4). Their way leads to destruction.

We will reflect the divine nature by our constant communion with the word of God.

Separation from the world is inevitable to receive blessings from God. At the same time, without their co-operation, our lives will be miserable, as long as we are in the world. However, it is absolutely possible for us to live a life without absorbing the impurities of this world.

How bitter were the consequences of being carried away into the world for Peter. He reached a stage where he had to deny his beloved Master. Peter who “followed afar off”, ended up sitting with them to warm himself. To be carried away into the world is a gradual process.

Another example before us is Lot. He was attracted to this world by its greenery, and ended up most miserably.

Believers should keep themselves away from the world. What is meant by “the world”? Whatever comes, as an obstruction between God and us is the “world.” It may differ from to person. To some, it may be their fortune, job, children, and family relationships and so on.

In a world subject to changes, many storms and waves may lash against the boat of our lives. If the Lord is in the boat, we have no reason to fear. Let us grant priority to the Lord and His words. Let’s not despise it. Let us make sure that the Lord is in the boat. May the Lord help us.

The Story Behind My Pen Name

(The Story Behind My Pen Name 'Ariel')

How I procured my pen name "Ariel"? There is a story behind it. This knol is a narration of that small incident happened in my life years back. That paved a way to stick with that name as my byline.

Pic. Credit. Fanpop.com
First, let me say few words about what prompted me to write this content. Yes, just after posting my previous content, "what is there in a name" Read more here:

I just started thinking about my own words, "Yes, next time when this question arises, "What's there in a name? Think of it, you will definitely find a lot in it". Those words echoed in my mind and I just thought of my own name "Ariel" and myself: Yes, there is a big story hidden behind it. Let me narrate that in short:

Pic. Credit. Google images
If my memory is not wrong, it was, when I was studying in the seventh standard; our English class teacher (Susan Mathew) started taking a lesson from an English prose. Shakespeare's famous drama "The Tempest" (Read the summary of the story here was the lesson for that day. Ms. Susan Mathews explained the story's summary and it was so interesting that everyone eagerly listened to it. Later she asked the first bench row to read out the lesson, each of us got different character to read, and very interestingly, I got the part of an interesting character called 'Ariel' the good spirit. The session was so interesting and all of us played our part well. Later when the class was over, everyone started calling me 'Ariel'. Since the character, Ariel was an important role to play in the drama 'Tempest.' I too liked calling myself Ariel, slowly the name became famous in our school and everyone started talking about it, and the people around me called 'Ariel Philip'. Thus, born a new person by name 'Ariel Philip'.

From the very young age, I used to write articles, stories, songs and poems in Christian weeklies and magazines. For more on this line about me please visit my content titled "My Early Experience with My Writings" at the following links: Here  and Here

I used my original name 'Philip Verghese' as my byline in my early writings. Few years later, after completing my high school education, I started sending letters, stories and articles to the secular publications in the new name 'Ariel Philip, Valanjavattom' and many of my writings published in the newspapers, Children's magazines and weeklies. My first writing (a letter to the editor) with that name, got published in one of the most prestigious publication in India, "The Malayalamanorama" daily newspaper (The largest circulated daily-now it is the largest circulated regional language daily in India). In addition, many of my articles and stories published in their children's magazine called 'Balarama', which is popular among the Malayalam speaking children. Later in the Malayalamanorama newspaper's youth page "Yuvatharangam" I was a regular contributor with that pen name  ‘Ariel Philip’

Years went by and in connection with my further studies; I landed in Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh where my elder sister was working. Staying with her family, I have completed my graduation and Journalism course. Slowly my writings shifted to the English language publications, and started publishing my contents in the name "P V Ariel" which is the short form of my full name "Philip Verghese 'Ariel' ".

Later I came to know about the meaning of the word 'Ariel'. Ariel means 'Lion of God'. I was so delighted to know the meaning and I decided to stick on to that name in my further writings thus born this little name 'Ariel'.

Now in my web writing I am using this name P V Ariel as my byline. Please read my interview with a well-known source producer at AssociatedContent.com, Dr. Donalad Pennigton of Texas, USA. Read more Here

Yet another content producer at AssociatedContent.com Ms. Sheryl Young of United States of America (A well known Christian writer, a Jew by birth) interviewed me and you can read more about my writings at this Interview

I am extremely happy to be here at this world wide web writing community. I am again happy to say that through this sites like associatedcontent.com, knol.google.com I could obtain a good number of like-minded people as friends and associate writers.

Presently I am working as an Editor for a Christian bi-monthly publication called 'Confident Living' published from Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh.

Read here my official Bio.

Let me take this opportunity one again to extend my heartfelt thanks to all my fellow writers, co-authors, readers, fans and friends for their wholehearted supports, comments and encouragement.

My sincere good wishes and season's greetings to one and all.

Thank you for your precious time to read this knol

With Best regards,
PV

Though I have joined knol on September 23rd 2008 I was inactive for quite sometime and recently I started contributing again and it’s really interesting and encouraging to interact with people here, though I had some unpleasant experiences with few, but that was a blessing in disguise and it helped me to go further with more vigor and enthusiasm. And within a short span I could make it to the ‘Top Viewed Author Award’ list and could make comments and reviews to the other authors at knol.  I now introduce and encourage my friends and other contacts to join this community called KNOL  Though knol is still in its infancy thousands of contributors are already joined and it is a fast growing website to acquire genuine and trustworthy information about anything in this universe.  There is a good response to my call and few are already here with their knols on my invitation and doing a tremendous job here.
I take this opportunity to invite my other friends and readers to actively involve here at knol as well as to tell about this to their friends and relatives.  Knol is a wonderful place to air your knowledge, views on any subject.
